The future development leader: How the evolving aid industry is redefining effective leadership
International development is undergoing transformative change. Localization, increased private sector engagement, innovation and value for money are no longer just talking points —they are now ingrained in most global development work.
How are these changes affecting the kinds of leaders we need in development? What skills and competencies will be in demand, and where can aspiring global leaders expect to find opportunities today and in the future?
Our panel of distinguished experts working across the development space will discuss these questions and provide their insight on how the changing aid landscape is impacting hiring trends, both here in Washington and abroad.

Succeeding as an independent consultant in global development
The project-based nature of international development work and the frequent need for specific, short-term technical expertise make this sector ripe for a thriving consultant base. If you seek a flexible schedule or want to focus on a technical concentration, striking out on your own can be a practical, and even lucrative, option. But how do you get started? This interactive panel of seasoned international development consultants and the recruiters that hire them will answer questions like, should I operate under a small business or as an individual? What insurance and tax implications should I be prepared to face? And how should I find clients and market my services? Come prepared with your questions and advice about succeeding as an international development consultant.
