About the event
Digital technology can be an essential tool for communicating with citizens about weather or health updates. But what happens when governments use digital technology to subdue opponents, suppress dissent, and maintain political power? Join us on June 22 for a conversation with Steve Feldstein — a senior fellow at Carnegie’s Democracy, Conflict and Governance Program and author of “The Rise of Digital Repression: How Technology Is Reshaping Power, Politics, and Resistance” — where we will discuss what he learned from government officials, security agents, human rights activists, technologists, journalists, politicians, and tech companies about what this struggle looks like on the ground.
About the Series: At the beginning of the pandemic, our president and editor-in-chief spent his days on the phone with global leaders on the various front lines trying to get a clear understanding of the issues. For over a year now we have brought these conversations directly to our community through our live Leader Conversation Series. You can find the other conversations here.
