He worked closely with Saint Teresa of Calcutta and the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta and led the regional response to floods, droughts, earthquakes, cyclones, and man-made emergencies. He experienced a terrorist attack by the Tamil Tigers at the Sri Lankan airport and championed programming in Afghanistan during and after the Taliban’s rule.

Prior to joining FHI 360, San Martin was CEO and president of Plan International USA, an international development and humanitarian organization that partners with adolescent girls and children around the world to overcome oppression and gender inequality. Previously, San Martin served as group vice president at Abt Associates, a consulting company providing research and technical assistance expertise on a wide range of social and economic policy issues, and as director for the Operations Group of the World Bank’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).

    Janti assumed as CEO in January 2020 after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer since May 2019. In this position, Janti had oversight for setting agency strategy, ensuring all parts of the organization were well managed, staffed, aligned, and operated as effectively as possible. Strengthening accountability for results and overseeing, integrating, and coordinating divisional activities also fell within her scope of work. Before her work with Save the Children, Janti spent nearly 20 years in the corporate sector at companies including Kimberly-Clark and Unilever. She has master’s degrees in Economics and Finance. Janti is half-Indonesian, and half-Dutch and is married with two children. She is based in Connecticut.
