DEVEX WORLD FAQ

Devex World is our flagship conference on December 10, 2020. It’s a unique and important event on the global development calendar in that it brings together a truly diverse set of actors from the worlds of government, business, technology, finance, NGOs, and more. We focus on the future of global development, how the industry is changing, and how the world’s most innovative practitioners and enterprises are changing the way global development work gets done.
This year full access to Devex World 2020 is exclusive to our Devex Pro and Pro Funding members. If you are already a member, you can claim your ticket here.

If you’re not a member and would like to join us at Devex World, It’s not too late to subscribe to Devex Pro our premium news and analysis subscription, giving you access to proprietary information, industry-insiders, and data-driven reporting on the latest development news you need to know.
Typically this event brings together 1,000 development professionals in Washington, D.C. But due to the global pandemic, we’ll be meeting virtually this year from all over the world. It’s a mix of big name leaders you know and people you’ve never heard of but are doing some of the most fascinating and innovative work in the world. There’s incredible diversity which helps us connect the dots for all participants about what’s really happening in global development.

Keynote speakers this year include David Malpass (President, World Bank), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Former Nigerian Minister of Finance and GAVI Board Member), Mark Suzman (CEO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), and Christiana Figueres (Former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC). You can see our growing list of speakers here.
It’s an intense day of programming and networking. Through the event platform you’ll have access to build a custom agenda of the day’s sessions, flashtalks, and interviews. You’ll also be able to virtually network with peers, set up 1-on-1 meetings, and actively participate in the discussions taking place throughout the day.
We only release a full program to ticket holders. The full program will be provided to ticket holders closer to December 10, 2020.

What we can tell you now is that Devex World 2020 will once again feature 5 themes:
  • Data Revolution
  • From Storytelling to Movement-Building
  • Innovating at Scale
  • Future of Development Finance
  • Business Transforming Development
These themes will help to frame a program that is oriented toward the future. We do address sectors in the program (including global health, agriculture, and education), but only through the framework of these thematic tracks. The result is a program that challenges conventional thinking and opens up opportunities for new partnerships and approaches.

As an event run by journalists, Devex World is very much rooted in the current context. For Devex World 2020, we will of course shine a spotlight on the pandemic and its ongoing ripple effects. We will also discuss the results of the US presidential election and its implications for global development funding and collaboration. And we will dig into the new technologies, billionaire philanthropists, and bold ideas challenging traditional approaches.
Devex World is a unique event on the global development calendar.

Unlike official convenings, Devex World is organized and run by journalists. The result is an event that is more challenging, thought-provoking, and engaging than many official summits and conferences.

Devex World is designed as a chance to think big, in practical terms. It’s an event about the future and innovation. As a result, it brings together -- and levels the playing field -- among a wide range of people.

You’ll see venture capitalists speaking with policy advocates; social entrepreneurs networking with philanthropists; Hollywood celebrities huddling with NGO chiefs.

This event is dynamic, innovative, and fun -- perfect for getting to know some of the most incredible people driving global development forward.
Be prepared to join by video, so smart casual attire is recommended. And we’ll be calling on you to answer poll questions, add your own ideas to discussions, pose questions to speakers, and speak up on roundtables discussions and workshops. As a result, be sure to have a strong internet connection, a location with minimum background noise, good lighting, and clear audio.
