Devex World is the flagship event of Devex, the media platform for the global development community. Held in 2016, 2018, and upcoming on December 10, 2020, it is a high profile event on the global development calendar. Approximately 1,000 development leaders and practitioners attend in-person, and thousands more join online.

Speakers and attendees include leaders of major global development organizations, technologists, philanthropists, investors, practitioners, and prominent individuals of all kinds.

Devex World 2020 will be held in-person in Washington, DC and online.
In-person tickets to Devex World 2020 are fully refundable. That means you will receive 100% of the price you paid refunded to you, no questions asked.

This is a new policy we have put in place due to the evolving health situation. Our only stipulation is that you make your refund request before November 1, 2020, since we’ll be holding your spot for in-person workshops, roundtable discussions, networking lunches, and our famous afterparty. If you request a refund between November 1 and December 1, 2020, we will provide a 50% refund. There will be no refunds after December 1, 2020.

If for any reason Devex must cancel Devex World 2020, we will provide the maximum possible notice to all ticket holders and we will provide full refunds no matter the date.

Virtual tickets are free for Devex Pro members. As a result there is no refund available for virtual tickets. If you would like to cancel Devex Pro, please refer to the refund policies for Devex Pro, our premium news subscription.
In-person tickets are discounted for all Devex Pro members. If you are a Devex Pro member, be sure to purchase your in-person ticket using the same email address associated with your Devex Pro membership. A $300 discount will automatically apply.

If you are not a Devex Pro member and plan to attend Devex World 2020 in person, you can subscribe to Devex Pro here in order to take advantage of this significant discount.
Due to the evolving health situation, Devex World 2020 will be both in-person and online. The virtual event will feature expected elements like live-streams of panel discussions and flash-talks. It will also include innovative elements like virtual roundtable discussions, workshops, and networking sessions.

For those joining online, you won’t just be listening to other people talk. Instead, there will be significant opportunities to engage with others, to share ideas, and to be a real part of the program. We’re also working hard to make the virtual experience truly fun.

Since Devex World is held in-person in Washington, DC, some live elements of the program might require you to join us at an odd hour depending on your timezone. As a result, we are working to include virtual elements that will accommodate participants from different parts of the world. Many parts of the program will also be recorded so you can watch them whenever you want.

To get your virtual ticket to Devex World 2020, all you have to do is join Devex Pro.
We only release a full program to ticket holders. The full program will be provided to ticket holders on November 10, 2020.

What we can tell you now is that Devex World 2020 will once again feature 5 thematic tracks: The Data Revolution
From Storytelling to Movement-Building
Innovating at Scale
New Funding Models
Business Transforming Development
The tracks help to frame a program that is oriented toward the future. We do address sectors in the program (including global health, agriculture, and education), but only through the framework of these thematic tracks. The result is a program that challenges conventional thinking and opens up opportunities for new partnerships and approaches.

As an event run by journalists, Devex World is very much rooted in the current context. For Devex World 2020, we will of course shine a spotlight on the pandemic and its ongoing ripple effects. We will also discuss the results of the US presidential election and its implications for global development funding and collaboration. And we will dig into the new technologies, billionaire philanthropists, and bold ideas challenging traditional approaches.
Devex World is a unique event on the global development calendar.

Unlike official convenings, Devex World is organized and run by journalists. The result is an event that is more challenging, thought-provoking, and engaging than many official summits and conferences.

Devex World is designed as a chance to think big, in practical terms. It’s an event about the future and innovation. As a result, it brings together -- and levels the playing field -- among a wide range of people.

You’ll see venture capitalists speaking with policy advocates; social entrepreneurs rubbing shoulders with philanthropists; Hollywood celebrities huddling with NGO chiefs.

Devex World is held at the Anthem, a music venue on Washington, DC’s waterfront. The vibe is dynamic, innovative, and fun -- perfect for getting to know some of the most incredible people driving global development forward.
For those joining us in-person, come ready to engage. That means smart casual attire, comfortable shoes, and our mobile app already downloaded on your phone.

For those joining us online, it’s similar. Be prepared to join by video, so smart casual attire is recommended. And we’ll be calling on you to answer poll questions, add your own ideas to discussions, pose questions to speakers, and speak up on roundtables discussions and workshops. As a result, be sure to have a strong internet connection, a location with minimum background noise, good lighting, and clear audio.
Yes, we’ll be providing delicious food throughout the day as well as plenty of coffee and tea -- it’s all included in your ticket price. Make sure you stick around for the reception and afterparty where we’ll serve signature cocktails, beer, wine, and hor’s d’oeuvres as well (also included).

(If you’re joining us online, you’ll need to provide the food!)
No. As a policy, Devex does not sponsor travel, visa, or other related expenses. We regret that this might prohibit some from attending in-person. We do hope, however, that the virtual ticket provides an opportunity for all global development professionals to join us.
We currently have all the volunteers we need, however, we will be posting an announcement should we need additional support closer to the event.
US consulates do not require letters of invitations and visas are granted based solely on the merit of the applicant. As a result, Devex will not be providing letters of invitation. Delegates are responsible for securing their own visas to come to the United States.
Yes, there will be an attended coat check where you can leave your belongings.
Yes, we have our own event app with all of the information you’ll need to make the most of your day. This will be shared with attendees in advance of the event. Please make sure you download the app in advance of the event so you can check out the program, create your own personal agenda, network with other attendees, and check-in at the registration desk in the morning
