About the Event

In conjunction with the 79th session of the U.N. General Assembly, Devex, in partnership with MSD for Mothers, will host a live discussion as part of the “Maternity Matters” series. This event aims to spotlight the ongoing work to Strengthen Systems for Safer Childbirth, and the vital role of public and private sector partnerships in advancing maternal health.

During the 77th World Health Assembly in May 2024, member states passed Resolution A77, which acknowledges that 64 countries are on track to miss the Sustainable Development Goal, or SDG, target for newborn mortality, 59 for under-5 child mortality, and 46 for maternal mortality. It underscores the need for a comprehensive approach to improving access to maternity, sexual, and reproductive health services, and highlights the significant burden on already stretched health systems and fiscal constraints globally, especially in low- and middle-income countries, or LMICs, where most of the 287,000 annual maternal deaths occur.

We’ll focus on:

  • Health financing and investment to advance equitable access to maternity care.

  • Strengthening the supply of quality maternal health commodities.

  • Plugging the health workforce gap.

  • The critical role of digital and information systems across the ecosystem to inform service delivery and decision making.

Emphasizing real-world impacts and personal stories, this discussion will help you understand the achievements and learnings from S3C coalitions over the past two years and how these collaborations have innovated and scaled solutions that can help achieve WHO’s resolution to accelerate efforts in reducing maternal and child mortality
