Globally, more than 5 million people die from lack of access to treatments for kidney disease each year — and it's projected to become the fifth leading cause of death worldwide by 2040.
According to the World Health Organization, the main noncommunicable diseases include cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes. But current efforts to tackle NCDs often fail to address chronic kidney disease — a vastly underdiagnosed, progressive NCD frequently caused by diabetes, hypertension, or obesity.
This event produced by Devex in collaboration with AstraZeneca and funded by AstraZeneca on the occasion of the 78th session of the U.N. General Assembly will explore the urgent need for improving access to and funding for the prevention and screening of chronic kidney disease. It will also discuss how diagnosing the disease before it advances can create significant impact at a societal level, not least on the environment. During the event, we’ll present findings from a new study demonstrating the broad ranging impact of CKD across health care systems, societies, and the environment.
So what are the current barriers to diagnostics for CKDs and how can health systems adopt a more holistic approach to NCD care and management?
We’ll bring together industry experts and leading global stakeholders to address kidney health within the broader UHC agenda, alongside NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, making it central to health policy.
Join us in New York or online as we bring new considerations to the debate around NCD care.
The event will be followed by a networking lunch for in-person attendees.
