On January 15, 2020, Devex will convene a group of senior thought leaders to host an important conversation exploring the practical steps being taken to ensure the appropriate use of foreign aid funds by the U.S. administration, as well as upcoming challenges and opportunities for the global development community in 2020. This event, underwritten by Pact, will feature a high-level interview between Devex senior reporter Adva Saldinger and Congressman Ami Bera, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation.

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation

Congressman Ami Bera represents California’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The 7th district is located just east of California’s capitol city, Sacramento, and lies entirely within Sacramento County. A first-generation American born and raised in California, Bera is guided by a desire to serve his community. It’s that commitment to service that led him to become a doctor and later run for Congress.

Bregeita Jefferson

Vice President of Business Operations, Pact

Bregeita (Bre) Jefferson is Pact's vice president for business operations. Before joining Pact, Bre worked at International Rescue Committee as vice president of awards management, where she managed several global teams. Prior to IRC, Bre served as the chief global compliance officer at PATH. She has more than 20 years of experience as an innovative, cross-functional leader with demonstrated expertise developing the global vision and strategies needed to help NGOs and mission-driven organizations build operational capacity, execute programs and maintain compliance with complex institution and funder requirements.

Raj Kumar

President and Editor-in-Chief, Devex

Raj Kumar leads a global team of over 100 Devexers and serves a community of 1 million global development professionals. His personal experience in over 50 countries, including a childhood partly spent in rural India, informs his work.

Adva Saldinger

Senior Reporter, Devex

As a senior reporter based in Washington, D.C., Adva leads coverage of the intersection between business and global development. For the latest on innovative finance, private sector engagement and entrepreneurship follow her reporting. A business journalist with more than 10 years of experience, she worked at several newspapers in the U.S. and lived in both Ghana and South Africa. Adva grew up in California, where she developed a great love of nature and the outdoors.
