Event Overview

The farmer, the technology developer, and the development community will come together to explore how innovations and new farming tools will support sustainable agriculture in order to achieve food and nutrition security. Today’s farmers face climate change and unpredictable growing conditions, changing pest and disease pressures, and an ever-expanding world population. This panel explores how new innovations can support farmer needs, as well as the need for science-based, pro-innovation political and regulatory environments to get new tools into the hands of growers.

Sarah is passionate about sustainability and the effective and efficient use of agricultural tools. A Senior Scientist for Bayer Crop Science’s Biologics Division, based in West Sacramento, California, Sarah leads a laboratory group focused on supporting research advancements for current biological products and products to-be. With over thirteen years of diverse experience in research and development for biologicals, Sarah brings a holistic and global perspective to the topic of current and future agricultural practices.

Patience Koku

Global Farmer Network

Patience is a graduate of political science and an accomplished entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience spanning across various industries including fashion and agriculture. She has hands on experience in starting and running a 12000 broiler bird per cycle poultry farm, commodity trading both locally and internationally brokering sales for ADM in Nigeria. Patience is on the board of several companies including Bellisima boutique ltd, Replenish farms Ltd, and 1 hectare 1 family Nig Ltd – a company that is working towards cropping 200,000 hectares of land in the next 5 years to improve the livelihood of small holder farmers by granting them access to mechanization, innovation, and technology.

Bonnie McClafferty

Director, Value Food Chain, GAIN

Bonnie has more than twenty years’ experience working in agricultural research and development within the institutes that make up the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) under the World Bank. Bonnie joined GAIN from HarvestPlus, where for twelve years she headed up their office on Development and Communications. Bonnie was also a founding leader of HarvestPlus. Bonnie holds a BSc, degree in agronomy from Cornell University and Master’s degrees in public policy and public administration from the University of Virginia.

Nyasha Mudukuti

Global Farmers Network

Nyasha served as the 2016 AGCO Africa Ambassador, advocating for agricultural reforms across the African continent, and participated at the 2013 Open Forum for Agricultural Biotechnology in Zimbabwe. She was also selected to participate at the 2014 Borlaug-dialogue on “Drought and Disease Tolerant crops on food security.” She is a member of the Global Farmers Network under Truth about Trade and Technology. As a member of the Global Farmers Network she blogs with the @World_Farmers, sharing innovative agricultural technologies across the continent. Her dream is to help her nation see the importance of biotechnology in agriculture and use it to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
