Abuja and On-Demand

The Women's Health Africa Summit

Africa is writing its own women's health agenda, and it starts in Abuja.

By 2050, one in four people on earth will be African, and the continent is on track to build an economy four to seven times larger than it is today, becoming a major engine of global growth.

Women are at the center of that story. They build businesses, drive informal markets, and hold communities together. But realizing that potential depends on one thing: their health.

There is no pathway to development without health, and no pathway to better health without investing in women. Women's wellbeing shapes the strength of economies, the resilience of societies, and the prospects of future generations. Yet global health aid is declining, and the systems that have long supported progress are under strain.

That challenge is also creating an opportunity. Across the continent, leaders are looking beyond old models and embracing a more ambitious vision for women's health that is African-owned, African-led, and built for the future.

Abuja is where that ambition becomes a commitment. Devex is co-convening the Women's Health Africa Summit alongside RenewHER, Nigeria's presidential initiative for women's health. Together, we will bring leaders and institutions from across Africa and beyond to debate, negotiate, and agree on a plan that is politically endorsed and built to drive policy reform, unlock investment, and scale innovation.

Because the health of the continent begins with the health of its women.

At the World Health Assembly in Geneva, three of Africa's leading voices on women’s health boldly said what a lot of people in that building weren't saying: Africa needs to set its own agenda. Watch:

SPEAKERS
