The digital world holds immense potential: connection, opportunity, and empowerment. But for millions of women and girls, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, this landscape is out of reach due to unequal access, gender biases embedded within the very design of technology, and a rise in technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
Launched at the Generation Equality Forum in 2021 and convened by UN Women, the Action Coalitions on Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality, and Gender-Based Violence generated concrete, actionable commitments to confront this stark reality. Ctrl Shift Equality has been co-developed to call on the global development community to join their efforts to bridge the digital divide, dismantle harmful biases, and promote safer online environments for women and girls across the world.
