Financial health, as defined by the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, is the ability to manage current financial obligations and feel secure about the future. However, many households and businesses, especially in low- and middle-income countries, struggle to recover from unexpected disasters due to poor financial health and lack of insurance. With climate change intensifying these risks, particularly for vulnerable communities, improving access to insurance and promoting financial health are crucial. Policymakers and insurers can support this by fostering financial stability, designing accessible insurance products, and leveraging partnerships with trusted community organizations to reach those most in need.
This event hosted by Devex in partnership with AXA EssentiALL will explore what it takes to foster improved financial health and create inclusive insurance products that effectively serve low-income individuals, especially in the face of growing climate impacts. Discussions will also dive deeper into the diverse mix of partners needed to reach emerging market customers and lessons learned from partners across sectors, including interviewees from “Middle Classes Cannot be Left Behind: A Call to Action” a forthcoming publication that will launch at the event.
