Event Overview

With only 11 years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the international community must explore the solutions offered by alternative funding models. This session will convene a group of thought leaders and practitioners to discuss the next frontier for development finance by evaluating what we’ve learned about the current landscape and identifying the steps forward. The conversation will focus on catalyzing ways to promote donor engagement and government participation in an effort to accelerate the partnerships and financing needed to move the needle on maternal health.

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede

Co-chair, Board of Directors, GBC Health

Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede is a lawyer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the founder and Chairman of Coronation Capital Nigeria Limited, an Africa-focused private equity and proprietary investment firm established in 2014. He is also founder of the Africa Initiative for Governance (“AIG”) a not-for-profit organisation, established to be a catalyst for high public sector performance; bringing leadership, funding and private sector innovation in a private-public partnership to attract, inspire and support future leaders of the public sector. The AIG has entered into a partnership with the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government (BSG). 5 scholarships will be awarded annually to outstanding Nigerians and other West Africans to undertake post-graduate training in governance and public policy at the BSG.

Mary-Ann Etiebet

Executive Director, MSD for Mothers

Dr. Etiebet has two decades of experience improving healthcare outcomes for vulnerable populations and transforming healthcare delivery at the frontlines. As the Lead and Executive Director, Dr. Etiebet is responsible for successfully implementing a robust set of innovative maternal health programs and high-impact partnerships that integrate the private sector’s invention and expertise to design, deploy and scale solutions that empower women, equip health providers and strengthen health systems.

H.E. Dr. Amir Aman Hagos

Minister of Health, Ethiopia

H.E. Dr. Amir Aman Hagos is the Minister of Health (MOH) of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. A physician by training,with a master’s degree in public health, he is a dedicated public health professional and has served as a medical practitioner in a primary hospital in a small town of Oromia Regional state. Prior to his appointment as Minister, he served as Director General of Policy and Planning Directorate and Director of Human Resources Directorate, and was finally serving as State Minister of Health in MOH. During his tenure, he has successfully increased the mobilization of human and financial resources, ensuring the effective implementation of the MOH’s five-year health development plan and is now spearheading the health sector transformation plan.

Kathryn Kaufman

Managing Director for Global Women’s Issues, OPIC

Kathryn C. Kaufman has built a career serving both the public and private sectors, with a focus on pursuing how governments can support private industry to spur economic growth and stability. She currently serves as Managing Director, Global Women's Issues. Ms. Kaufman is responsible for leading OPIC's 2X Women's Initiative, a top priority for the Administration.

Raj Kumar leads a global team of over 100 Devexers and serves a community of 1 million global development professionals. His personal experience in over 50 countries, including a childhood partly spent in rural India, informs his work.

Monique Vledder

Practice Manager, The Global Financing Facility

Monique Vledder is the practice manager of the GFF. Previously, she managed the Health Results Innovation Trust Fund, the World Bank’s fund for the poorest—which to date has committed $436 million in grants linked to $2.4 billion in financing from IDA—for 36 results-focused programs in 30 countries. Her expertise in maternal and child health, health financing, and health systems strengthening was built over 20 years of in-country experience, with a focus on southern Africa, East Asia, and Latin America for the World Bank, the United Kingdom Department for International Development, and World Vision International. She received her MD from the University of Amsterdam, an MPH in international health from Harvard University, and a diploma in health economics from the University of York.
